Letting Go: Floating Down the River

I float along. Flowing with the river.

At times I see a bank that I’d like to visit. Sometimes I leisurely paddle over to it. Other times I dream of what it would be like to experience that land. Yet other times still I lie awake at night, my mind racing, obsessed with thoughts of life on that bank. Aching for it, disgruntled and angry that I am not there.

Time passes and my thoughts return to my present state. Floating along on a lovely river.

Why the anxiety? Why the torment? How could There be better than Here?

It is all the same. It is all different.

It is not the same. It is not different.

So I continue to travel along as the river flows.

I let life live through me. I surrender to what feels right, to what feels easy, to letting the river sweep me downstream.

Go with the flow

I love it, Megan. You had me at “river.” I lived about a 10 minute walk from the Potomac River for 18 years, and I really love rivers. I once took a Danube river cruise, and then later a river-lake-canal-river cruise in Russia. I loved those cruises. There is something wonderful about being in the moment, observing life, letting your mind float free while you float. If we could do that several times a day in our mind (such as in meditation), we’d all have that perspective that nothing in the world matters that much that you should torment yourself.
